Christmas Decor Organization

I must say that I think I am finally fully recovered from the holidays.  I spent this week reflecting on our wonderful holiday season and I am truly happy and blessed with how everything turned out.   With that said, it was time for me to pack up all the wonderful decorations that I had so much fun playing with this past month.

I was asked the question.  How do I store my holiday decorations?  Well, the system that I have is basic and works well for me.  I want to share with you my method of organizing and storing my holiday decor, but first here are a few tidbits on why I organize my holiday decor the way that I do.

-I don’t decorate my home the same every holiday.  What was in one room one year is most likely not going to be in that same space the next year.

-I don’t label my bins specific to a room for my holiday decor.  Because I like to create a new vibe each year, it helps my creativity by not having my holiday decor organized by room.  Basically all of my decor is user friendly for all rooms :).

-Saran wrap and Glad Bags are my best friend when it comes to storing my holiday decor.

Color Coding

I pack my christmas decor by color.  This makes it easy each year when I go to get those creative juices rolling when it is time to decorate my home for the holidays.  I currenty have GOLD, BRONZE, GREEN, WHITE and SILVER holiday decorations.

Protecting My Decor

Now my BFF for protecting my holiday decor while in thier bins is good ole Glad bags.  This works so well to keep things neat and orderly, along with preventing decor from getting damaged and tangled.

Christmas Light Organization

I keep all my lights in one bin.  Each set of lights is wrapped around a cardboard and labeled specifically to what tree or garland it belongs to.  This is great because it keeps the lighting from tangling.

Delicate Holiday Item Storage

For those larger delicate items that I have (such as this ornament tree I made) I absolutely love using Saran wrap.  It keeps my larger delicate items protected and secure while stored in their bin.

My Garland and Trees

Well here i my current situation with all my garland and trees :).  Hubby is going to get the bins down tomorrow so that we can pack these up and then we are all done!
I hope that your holiday pack up was successful and that you are off to a amazing new year!

Oh, my goodness, Nikki I do the same thing. I had rather not decorate the same way two years in a row and I, too, pack up by color so the following year when I begin to work my plan for that year I can easily see if I need any more of whatever colors that I am using. I’m a big fan of zip lock baggies, too! I find they work well. Now here’s the thing…I have never thought to use Saran Wrap …I have some items I think it would be perfect for…I wonder if it would work on large oddly shaped full wreaths…you know the ones with feathers and other delicate things added???

Great minds think alike..LOL. I just love the color coding system of packing. Has worked so well for me. I am sure the Saran wrap should work with your wreaths. I have a wreath bag that I keep all my wreaths in so I never tried the Saran wrap, but if you do, please let me know. Hope your having a wonderful day. Nikki

OMG I store my ornamenst almost in the same way. In 2010 I bought clear plastic bins and stored all my xmas ornaments including lights. I labeled each bin with the colors, and the rooms that the ornaments belong to. I used tissue paper to wrap my most delicate and precious ornaments. I store my lights just like you do; however I don’t labeled the lights, great tip. OMG I bought a large package of saran wrap at costo just before the holidays, I am going to use your idea for wrapping some of my holiday display and the ziplock bags. Great post.

I love this idea. I will be taking my decorations down this weekend and was trying to think of a way to organize them for storage. This should work great!

This is a great system. I’ve actually just made a new years resolution to pack up all my decor items this way! Makes it so much easier to find what I need when I need it. I LOVE the idea of the Saran Wrap!!! I had been packing my breakables in newspaper or paper towels and then putting them in the color bins, but with Saran Wrap, I can actually SEE what is in my bins without having to unwrap everything! Thanks Nikki! =D

Nikki! Such a good system for packing away the holiday decor. I got all new stuff this year – out with the hodge podge in favor of a color scheme that made me smile. I was wondering how best to put it all away and this will work nicely. I have not been in a hurry to put it away as I still have family trickling in for visits – but this week I will probably go ahead and take it down. So glad to find this before I started the process. I have my baggies all ready to go! Thanks again for inspiration and organizational tips!

Great ideas that I will be incorporating this year. Sometimes the simplest things like putting ornaments in baggies is such a huge tip and right about now I’m thinking, “why didn’t I think of that” haha..well I’m a little excited for the holiday to be over so I can pack up all nice and organized this year. Thanks Nikki! Hope you do a video on this one day
