Kitchen Renovation Tips On A Budget

Picture

My husband and I recently renovated our entire kitchen on a budget by doing all of the work ourselves (with the exception of installing the granite countertops). If it wasn’t for the assistance of an Atlanta Granite Countertops installation company, for example, doing it ourselves may not have produced the best results for our kitchen. It was a lot of work but so well worth it. We planned everything beforehand which was a massive help as there are so many things to remember. We saved a lot of money (and I mean a lot) doing the entire renovation ourselves. The only thing that we did not do was install the granite countertops. Check out the video below where I share with you all the details of our kitchen renovation.

You can see before pictures on the video below. It was a major transformation that we love! The next area we are looking to transform is the staircase! We have been looking on Pear Stairs and do hope that we see the same metamorphosis in this space too. The kitchen really went from being the darkest place in the house to now being the brightest.

You will definitely want to watch the video to find out just what I think about this light fixture.

One way that we saved money was to shop sales. Lowe’s had the appliances we wanted on sale for 20% off. My husband and I went to the store right at closing the last night of the sale to purchase the appliances. The store clerk told us to come back tomorrow because they will be on sale for 40% off! We were so excited. Talk about being in the right place at the right time! This was a huge money saver for us. If you want to save, it’s all about shopping about to find the best deals. We wanted to install Air Con in our kitchen. It gets mega hot sometimes! In the end, https://iceblast.com.au/ was the most reliable and trusted provider so we went with them!

I wish I had a plan laid out to my kitchen like your, but with my color choices. do you have the story board of how you planned this room.

  2. kellee Robinson says:

    Hello, Nikki.

Love the new kitchen. I may have missed this in your video but where do you purchase the banquette in your breakfast nook?

    This is absolutely beautiful !

  6. I really like how the simple selection of colors can really lighten up a space. Kitchens are really difficult for me to imagine in different designs and colors, so this was a great chance for me to see the benefits that can come from choosing a different color. I really like the end results, and especially your advice. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Rhonda Roddy says:

Hi Nikki, I did IM this message through FB, just wanna make sure you see my question.

I am thinking about painting my dated OAK cabinets white and while I was cleaning them with vinegar and water, I had the horrifying thought, how will the white paint hold up to grease, grime and yellowing stir-frying, boiling water and such create? What are you having success with in maintaining that fresh look on your cabinets?

  11. Your kitchen is so beautiful! I hate dark kitchens and mine is dark. A friend put in a skylight of sorts to lighten it up, but I must do something with my cabinets. Your choices are perfect for everything…and the light was definitely worth it. I have a huge chandelier in my master bedroom over the garden tub and it looks fabulous. You have some wonderful tips. Thank you so much for sharing!

PS: I love your garage too!

  12. Pat says:

Hi Nikki, Terrific job on your kitchen. I am a single Mom and will need to attempt this myself. Would you suggest it if I brought in friends for the heavy stuff? As well, I am curious as to why you did not paint the INSIDE of your cupboards as well. I have a SAD old 1962 (dull wood?) kitchen, and adore a white kitchen. Some of the cabinets do not work tho’ Would you ever have entertained the notion of replacing only the bottom cabinets from a repurposing store – like a Habitat for Humanities and THEN doing the spraying etc.

  13. Cheryl says:

Nikki your designs have inspired me to decorate my home. I love your projects that you have shared and I really love your kitchen. What color did you use for your kitchen walls?

  14. judy wilson says:

I really like how you renovated this kitchen. The hanging crystal chandelier looks great with the modern elements in this kitchen. I feel that the eggshell white painted cabinets and drawers compliment the grey tile splashback and granite countertop. Thanks for posting this!

  21. Carol Stoecker says:

My husband and I made renovated our kitchen . Our house is one level and a basement and we open all the wall to living room and our dinning room,. We have a island with four chairs, I love my kitchen and your kitchen is beautiful too.
We our now renovated our laundry room is in the basement. We have a lot redoing the basement, office and master bathroom. the cost for our kitchen 15,000 and we did it ours self too. It took awhile to do it. I did lose my pantry so we have a closet and it is 6ft, so I took anything out and turn it into a panty it is bigger then my old one. The problem is everything the closet had to be move so it went into my off closet. then my older son move out and my 2 son move out a little later. There room was downstairs, We had 5 children it was nice to have my own craft room we open up the wall and made the storage room small to even out the wall but I lost my some Christmas storage and it went into my office closet. The office needs new hard wood floors, paint, closet door and new curtain. It’s nice to see someone doing the same things. Love your videos

  22. Katy says:

I am very impressed with your kitchen. You are obviously a perfectionist with great taste… And it shows! I particularly appreciate the “found” cabinet for the coffee bar, your teamwork with the hubby, and your willingness to save for your project. Debt is no fun and it’s so great that you encourage the younger generation to attain things the “right” way….. Saving and patience. God bless you and Happy Independence Day!

In your “My Current Favorite Things” You did a YouTube video showcasing a Biltmore beadedicated serving tray. You also showed 2 silver hourglass textured mugs. I am hopeful that you can tell me where I caneed purchase them. I recently found the tray at Belk department store, but haven’t been able to locate the mugs.

  31. Kathy Serrano says:

I would never have guessed that you and your husband did the kitchen renovation yourself! It truly looks like you had an interior designer and contractor do the job. It is gorgeous! The “before” kitchen was dark and unimpressive. The “after” kitchen is sparkling and bright and glamorous. Wow!

  32. Justin Knox says:

Thank you for sharing your project. My wife and I are hoping to start a kitchen renovation sometime in the near future. I love the dining set and light fixtures that you brought into the room. How did you go about choosing specific fixtures for the the renovation?

    Hi Nikki,
I love your kitchen and everything you have used in to build your kitchen. I have watched your kitchen makeover video at least 30 times if not more. Would you be able to tell me what hardware you used for your kitchen cabinets and drawers (handle pulls) and the size? Are these 3 inches or 5 inches? Ans what finish is it?

    Thank you
    GA

  39. I love the look of the stainless steel with the white kitchen. It looks so modern and clean. I would love to have a glass chandelier like that as well. I need to show this to my contractor and see what he can draw up for me.

  40. Wow Niki, your kitchen is just beautiful! My favorite pictures is your dinning area it is simply stunning! I will have to share this with my husband and hopefully we can get started today!

The video for the project was also very detailed and I enjoyed every moment of it.

  43. Crystal says:

Beautiful! I would love to do the same, however, my dilemma is the color of paint I should choose. My kitchen trim is an off-white and I would love a white kitchen too. Did you match the color of your kitchen cabinets to the color of trim in your kitchen?

  44. Emily Stone says:

Fantastic job, love the detailing and little-added extras!

  45. Lucia Slater says:

Wow, your renovation may have been on a budget but you totally made it look like a million bucks. Love the pantry and the light fixture!

Thanks for sharing this informative blog. The information will be helpful to many people who are planning to remodel their kitchen. All the social sites are very useful to get kitchen remodeling ideas within budget. Once again thanks, waiting for the next post.

  47. Braden Bills says:

I’m trying to come up with a good way to get my home renovated. It makes sense that I would want to start with the kitchen! I’ll start looking at different kinds of counters and light fixtures.

  48. I can’t believe you and your husband were able to renovate most of your kitchen on your own! Unfortunately, my husband and I aren’t the type of people who would feel comfortable installing new cabinets or appliances. Luckily, we have been saving up so we can budget accordingly.

  49. Alexandra says:

Nikki you are a wiz and a genius! So creative and savvy. I wish I could borrow some of that brain wiring you have, it is a true talent to be able to organize things the way you do, you are very pedantic and clever! You videos are so helpful and inspirational! I came across them by accident on youtube and am so glad I did. I just kept watcing one after the other. I have been wanting to give my IKEA kitchen (installed by pervious home owners) a face lift because personally I just don’t like the ultra modere style. I thought of adding some molding to enhance them and make them more architectural and then paint them in gray with gold hardware. Eventually I want to re-do the entire kitchen, it needs new planning and re-modelling, but for now, I figured a face lift would be a good idea so I can at least enjoy my time in there. The main issue I had was to convince my husband because there is much resarch that needs to go into planning how to do the job properly. However, after getting all of that valuable information from your video, I know that it is something I can show him and he will agree 🙂 We have tackled huge projects around the yard (hardscaping, I mean some serious 6ft digging waterproofing, releveling kind of hardscaping) to mention a few int he past 4 years. But now that winter is here, we have a little bit of indoor time and I think the kitchen would be a good place to tackle.

Thank you so much again! You are an bsolutely remarkable woman!

    Cheers!

    Alexandra from Canada

I like these worthwhile ideas which are amazing.Probably, for all peoples kitchen renovation is not essential but for me it’s is one of the best way to give our kitchen fantastic & bold look.

  51. I appreciate your comment that it saves a lot of money to do a renovation yourself. I think that makes sense, and I might want to try it. I am really interested in good kitchens and I think I might be able to be more confident if I saw the process of others first.

  52. Danni Black says:

I really like your tip about shopping for sales when it comes to renovating your kitchen. My husband and I have been thinking about redoing our kitchen for a while now so we will have to keep these tips in mind. Hopefully we can hire a great contractor to work with. Thank you for sharing!

  53. Krystal says:

Where is the dining settee/couch from?

  54. Darlene says:

Great job!! Where did you get that kitchen table?
